Our mission is to leverage technology for social good. We’re proud to have spent the past 21 years building a business around impact.
We do work our clients and our team members love. Since 2000, our team of software engineers, user experience/visual designers, and data scientists have worked closely and iteratively with clients like Starbucks, US Green Building Council, NBCUniversal, B Lab, the City of Boston, and more.
To be successful at Green River, you’ll need technical skills, analytical experience, a collaborative outlook, and a commitment to working for social change. If you’re looking for work you find meaningful, we want to hear from you.
Founder and CEO
Our projects offer challenges in developing complex scalable algorithms as well as user interfaces designed to support people's workflows and motivations. We use an ever-evolving approach to software development as new best practices emerge. Together, we’ve created a collaborative atmosphere in our company – shaping together the kind of work and lifestyle we want and fostering career paths through mentorship. This has resulted in exceptionally long-term relationships with both our clients and our staff.
Green River is looking for exceptional technical and non-technical talent to join our growing team. Please visit our application platform for current openings.
We’ve been working in Ruby on Rails for more than 10 years, and its emphasis on rapid development and programmer happiness has been a great match for demanding projects. Our front-end team likes React, GraphQL, and TypeScript, and our extensive database work calls on the likes of PostgreSQL, among others. In the end, we defer to the appropriate technology for each project, and we have ongoing production experience with a range of other languages and tools up, down, and around the stack—please read more on our Technology page.
Software runs into trouble when it is driven only by 'expert' assumptions about what people need and how they do things. User experience research provides foundational understanding of our target users' varied perspectives and motivations. Whatever level of the stack you work on, we are most successful when guided by the whys behind what we're building. Green River UX and UI designers lead the work of keeping user needs front and center, but the whole team participates in the design of our software—please read more about our approach on our User Experience page.
We've helped clients collect and manage data since the company's inception, and have presented data in visualizations of all types. Our goal, however, is to take the presentation of data a step further—to explore the data and build narrative around what we find to effect change. To that end, we pull data scientists into many of our projects and are also creating digestible, interactive data journalism to tell stories important to clients and users.
